Meet the WCFS Team

Our staff brings decades of combined experience in Christian education, homeschool oversight, and family support. Many are WCFS graduates themselves.

Gary Cox

Superintendent

B.A. in Bible from Washington Bible College. Gary brings 8 years of teaching math and science in Christian schools and 51 years of administrative experience. He has served as Senior Pastor at Wellspring Christian Fellowship since 1977 and is the founding vision behind WCFS. Married 53 years, he and his wife have 10 children and 53 grandchildren. Gary enjoys carpentry and farming.

Becky Wyand

Academic Supervisor

Master's in Education from Shippensburg University. A former Christian school teacher and principal, Becky has served WCFS and homeschool families since 1985. She is a passionate advocate of Championship Education principles and is dedicated to helping parents succeed as their children's primary educators.

Donna Fleharty

Registrar, Director of Finances & Event Coordinator

Joined WCFS in July 2012. Donna oversees all student records, finances, accounting, and event planning for the school. A homeschool veteran herself, she has 20 years of experience with WCFS and has four adult WCFS-graduate children and two grandchildren.

Joseph Cox

Records Specialist

A WCFS graduate (Class of 2013) who went on to complete a Biblical Exposition diploma from EI Bible School and spent five years teaching multiple subjects in Costa Rica. Joseph is passionate about enjoying God's world and brings firsthand experience as a WCFS graduate to his support of current families. He enjoys hiking, birdwatching, volleyball, and soccer.

Ruth Shell

Administrative Secretary

A WCFS graduate (Class of 2017) who joined the team in July 2019. Ruth handles audio/video/web design, social media, and teaching assistance for the school. She enjoys photography, history, and chess — and brings a creative and technical eye to WCFS communications and media.

Miriam Benkendorf

Ignitia Support Specialist

A WCFS graduate (Class of 2020) who joined the staff in September 2021 and now works remotely from West Virginia. Miriam manages Ignitia support, social media, the WCFS website, and graphic design. She is skilled in languages, art, music, and dog training — and is the first point of contact for all Ignitia curriculum questions (ignitia@wcfs.edu, (240) 675-4846).

Francy Shell

Affiliate Records Specialist

A WCFS graduate (Class of 2017) who joined the team in January 2022. Francy assists WCFS affiliate programs with student record management, supporting the H.E.L.P. network of partner schools and co-ops that rely on WCFS oversight and services.

Board of Directors

Governance & Oversight

WCFS is governed by a Board of Directors appointed from the Wellspring Christian Fellowship board. The board oversees financial stewardship and the general development of the school, ensuring that WCFS remains aligned with its founding mission of Christ-centered, parent-directed education.
